Disabled Ipad

After charging my ipad it was disabled. This has happened twice over the last week and I have always been able to recover/restore it with my computer. Today recovering or restoring the ipad has been possible because "the disc I am attempting to use is full" and I am asked to empty the recycle bin. But how do I do that when the ipad is disabled and cannot be opened?
