External HDD still spining after ejecting

So I'm not sure when the problem began but it has been annoying me for over a year now for sure.

I've tried many different brands but they all do the same. This problem only occurs on my macbook, doesn't seem to be the problem on a couple of PCs with windows.

I can't find how to solve this problem and I don't have an idea on how to solve it.

Nothing works, even disc utility can't stop the disc from spinning.

After ejecting the light starts blinking but suddenly lights up again and the disc continues to spin.

I've seen similar threads on this topic but they are 4 years old and still no solution told

Not sure if it's going to help but I'm trying to update my mac to El Capitan.

Please help!

Hold the Option key when ejecting the external drive from Finder.

I have noticed a bug in Finder when trying to unmount a TM backup it re-mounts on its own. Doing it twice seems to get around the bug (?)

or from the Terminal.app copy and paste:

diskutil unmount

then drag and drop your external device into the Terminal window to complete the path, enter/return to proceed.
