where is My Photo Stream in Photos in Mojave

I have been told that My Photo Stream is an Album, but as you can see by the 1st picture it shows up in the "Library" and sometimes not at all. Why is My Photo Stream sometimes listed and sometimes not. 1st Picture is 7/14/2020 and the 2nd one is 7/15/2020.

Thank you

Cindy

No, don't do the repair. If it goes away again and you can't get it back then try the repair.

My settings in Photos - Preference - iCloud is and always has been "My Photo Stream" Not iCloud Photos

I have not done any system software or changed any settings between the 2 screen shots. The last update I did was a Security Update 2020-033 7/7/2020. I changed my iPhone Camera setting on on 7/13/20 after reading that My Photo Stream was not compatible with High Efficiency HEIF, which is very odd My camera was set at High Efficiency and my Photos uploaded to my MacBook Pro. I noticed on the 7/8/20 that it took a couple of days to get to my MacBook, but pictures on 7/9/20 never did get to my computer. 7/13/20 I started looking into My Photo Stream, when I airdrop from my phone to my computer it shows the "Recents" Picture as HEIC and the "My Photo Stream" as JPG.

At this point I was looking for My Photo Stream on my MacBook, my phone had more than 30 days of Pictures in My Photo Stream, this is when I found it was not in "Albums" as was stated in many post but in the Library, sometimes. I have no idea why it is there sometimes and other times not, which is why I posted this question.

I have post other question that are similar, each one I post more details as I have discovered them.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Then it is the System Photo Library.

Try the following:

1 - As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library and set it to be the System Photos Library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? (This tells us if the problem is limited to your current library or is more wide spread)

2 - Log into another admin user account, Set up users, guests, and groups on Macrepeat the test in #1 above and see if the problem persists. (This tells us if the problem is limited to your user account or is system wide).

#1- there is My Photo Stream in the Library section

#2 - same

What does this mean? What now?

Another test I tried - I changed my camera in my iPhone XS back to High Efficiency and these pictures also populated My Photo Stream on these 2 test accounts. Air drop from phone to computer the Recent and the My Photo Stream, Recent - HEIC, My Photo Stream - JPG. Is My Photo Stream Compatible with HEIC? Does it convert it? And what is the HEIF I was seeing in other post.

Thank you

My Photo Stream supports the following formats: About iCloud Photos and My Photo Stream - Apple Support

  • JPEG
  • PNG
  • TIFF
  • Most RAW formats

And what is the HEIF I was seeing in other post.

HEIF is a container format - it stands short for High Efficiency Format. It is a container format for images or videos. The images in a HEIF container are using the codec HEIC, the videos HEVC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Image_File_Format). See also: Using HEIF or HEVC media on Apple devices - Apple Support

If you have set the Settings > Photos in the Transfer to Computer section to More Compatible, the HEIC images will be converted to JPGs for My Photo Stream.

That tells us that the problem lies in your current library. Since you don't have the iCloud library enabled go ahead and open the library with the Option+Command keys held down and repair the library.

If all else fails you and use the paid version of PowerPhotos to merge your current library into the test library that works. Then verify you have all your photos and metadata in the new library and that the Photo Stream still works before deleting the old library.
