Latest update says I need 2.2 GB of storage but I only have 2.0 available. I already deleted all the apps it will let me delete to free up storage. Any suggestions?

I tried powering down and restarting my watch for the last update. It did not work for me. I still had to unpair and re-pair as I’ve done for the last several updates.
I had this same problem - removing apps didn't seem to clear up memory. Not until I powered the watch down and restarted it and connected it to my phone did it read with more available space. At least I didn't have to backup and restore like the other method.
I have to say this Apple Watch, latest Series, is the LAST Apple product I will ever buy. In what universe do programmers decide it’s okay to build an upgrade that exceeds the OS storage capacity of the device. There used to be partitioned memory for upgrades and updates. It, and the size was considered more or less sacred. What happened to that?
This is a bush-league practice on Apple’s part, inexcusable. Oh, need to add, the upgrade took over 2 hours to install. Does good Ol’ Tim think I want to be without my phone and watch for over two hours. I have a life and business to run. Reliable tech (nearly a grand oxymoron) is what I need, not a lot of stuff app developers without hair on their... never mind... think is cute. I’m taking my office and every device I can and moving to Linux.
I no longer care if they build their vastly over-priced and sometimes reliable garbage in China or on Mars. I am done!
Unpair your Apple Watch via the Watch app on your iPhone.
Then Re-pair your Apple Watch,this deletes temporary and corrupted files and also re-indexes the file system freeing up a surprisingly large amount of storage space.

I did not lose photos.
There is not a “restore from backup” button.

Unpairing and then again pairing my watch somehow freed up over 2 GB of storage on my watch. This allowed installation of the latest software, and may have also cleared up a problem of an app freezing up. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, I had to free up space for the big update yesterday, and I unpaired it. When I went to pair it again it just asked if I'd like to use my backup save or treat it as a new watch. I picked backup and everything worked perfectly. It freed up the space I needed. Crazy how unpairing it works. Thanks I got it updated .
First you need to unpair the watch on the app on your phone. After you do that you re-pair the watch on your app on your phone. It will ask if you want to restore from backup or set up as a new watch. Select restore from backup. After you do that, then you can install the update.
Cancel the update before trying to unpair and re-pair watch. Unpairing and repairing has worked for me. It frees up storage somehow. I deleted everything I could but even that did mot work for me. Only unpairing and re-pairing worked for me. You will not lose anything on your watch as long as you restore from backup.
The need to unpair and repair is clearly a bug, as I've had to do it for the last 4 watch OS updates. I didn't need to delete anything, just needed to unpair and repair. It would be nice if Apple fixed this obvious bug and had better memory management on the Apple Watch for updates.
