G4 iBook has no OS

After a change of heart I've just re-assembled my white i-Book (G4, mid 2005, 1.33Ghz). Unfortunately I had wiped the drive prior to intended disposal. It powers up to the flashing '?' as there is no OS on the drive. How can I load one? The optical drive spins and I have an original copy of OS 10.5.4 but when I load it, it just spins and eventually stops.

I also have a 2012 iMac on Catalina, a superdrive, and a Firewire-USB adaptor on order. Would firewire Target Disc work and how would I configure it?

Any ideas?

Probably will need to see if combo or superdrive needs de-dusting/cleaning

then use a system install DVD (leopard 10.5 retail) or original Tiger 10.4.2, etc.

These, better to try & install from disk media; no copies. I've clones of mine.

Maybe others will consider this thread and offer workable solutions. IF you

have correct hardware also to attempt options. FireWire external DVD drive?

Another, from clone FW400 (powered AC adapter) enclosed ATA/IDE drive?

"FireWire Target Disk Mode" ~ could work. But not 100% due to using adapters.

Newer Macs that use FW to 'other port' adapters, don't like old vintage gear.

{Just gave away my as-new complete iBook G4 last build version 12-inch 2005

to friends; even had box, accessories, original DVDs, & 'neo-case' for protection.}

Good luck & happy computing!🌞🐝
