Apple ID vs iTunes ID?

On my iPhone I have my normal iCloud account (example@icloud.com) but under iTunes and App Store in the Apple ID settings I have a different apple ID (altexamp@gmail.com). The iTunes account has some gift card credit on it. I just got a mac and the apple ID for it is the same as my phone, example@icloud.com, but I can't figure out how to connect the iTunes/App Store to the ID that has the gift card credit like my phone does. If I just switch to the second ID then I lose all my contacts and iCloud data.

Is there a way to change the Apple ID account for the app store so I can use that credit, or transfer the credit onto the other account?

Good afternoon kdc0123,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you have a question regarding your Apple ID account. If we understand your examples above, the @gmail address is your primary Apple ID. When you enabled the Mail app in the iCloud settings, that created an @iCloud account. But the first part of the email address stays the same. (ie. ABC@gmail.com and ABC@icloud.com.).

Usually, these are "connected" meaning you can sign in with either email address to access the same Apple ID account. (You can test this by going to www.iCloud.com and signing in with either address).

Manage and use your Apple ID

If you created an alias address in iCloud, then you will see something different like ABC123@iCloud.com.

iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses

"You can't sign in to iCloud.com with an email alias. Sign in with your @icloud.com email address or the Apple ID that you use with your iCloud account."

We would recommend confirming your Apple ID (@gmail.com) address is used to sign in to the iTunes & App Store in the Settings app.

Settings > [your name] > iTunes & App Store

Take care.
