Lost 5000 photos/videos

Hi. I have an IPhone XR and I have been backing up my phone on my husbands iCloud through family sharing.

recently I noticed almost 5000 photos and videos missing on my phone. And I checked recently deleted but did not find them there either. I tried to backtrack if I had made any changes recently to my iPhone and related issues. I noticed the below 2 events

  1. my data was a lot and so our shared iCloud space was getting full and one day my husband stopped the family sharing so that I can buy my own iCloud space so as to accommodate for my large data. And therefore I bought my own 200gb iCloud to accommodate my 170Gb data
  2. i was looking through my old videos and noticed the older videos were taking ages to load so I googled why that was happening and I changed my iCloud photos setting from ‘ optimize iPhone storage’ to ‘download and keep originals’

these are the only 2 events that happened

can any of the above events make me to lose 5000 photos

if yes how can I recover them?

if no then how did I lose 5000 images overnight randomly?/and they are not in the recently deleted photos either

thanks in advance

Some of the reasons that you may have lost those photos -- not enough iCloud storage space, husband stopped Family Sharing, and timeframe in which this was noticed, i.e. not enough storage and time it took to purchase extra space. It is possible that if your husband continued with the Family Sharing but upped the storage from 200GB to 2TB, that might've saved the photos and avoided this issue.

If you've already checked the Recently Deleted folder and they aren't there, then they are unrecoverable.
