Is there a limit to how many Albums you can have in iphoto

Not shared albums, just "My Albums", is there a limit to how many albums you can create? If there is a limit, what happens when you try to create an album over the limit?

Are you asking about iPhoto or the Photos.app? On a mobile iOS device or on a Mac?

Sorry, your question is not quite clear, because your question is in the forum for the Photos.app on mobile devices, but you are asking about iPhoto. iPhoto can no longer run on an iPhone or iPad since iOS 8 has been released in in 2014. The iLife version of iPhoto has been deprecated on the Mac as well and can no longer run on macOS 10.15 or newer.

I have not seen any limit mentioned for the Photos.app.

We know, that Photos should be able to manage at least 1 000 000 photos or items in library, because Photos can open Aperture Libraries. Aperture had a limit of at most 100000 photos in a project. Photos is turning Aperture projects into albums, so it should be possible to have 100 000 items in an album.

The documentation for Photos does not mention any limits. My Photos Library has 1800 albums, when I last counted, but I am in the process of deleting albums. It is no problem on the Mac to work with so many albums, because we can group them in folders and sub folders, but the support for albums is poor on the iPhone. When we need to find an album in the list of albums on the iPhone in another app, we cannot sort the list or search the list. The user interface has been made for just a few albums.
