why doesn't my apple watch nike 5.0 stay on while charging and i have nightstand mode on?

Display goes dark after a few minutes And any movement where it is at will display the time again. This is on purpose. Hopefully this will change in updates down the road.

Apparently this is how the feature was designed, but it makes no sense. Apple Watch with Always On doesn't stay on.
