Does TM require any freshen up maintenance?

Using Time Machine to fill an intentionally erased Mac HD. Does the TM external drive require any freshen up maintenance?

Time Machine: Lost a Drive - Now What? Running High Sierra 10.13.6 on a mid-2010 iMac. Internal HD is a 1TB SSD. I've had two external HDs dedicated to TM for a few years - a 2TB and a 3TB, both Firewire 800. It appears that the 3TB drive has crapped out - no longer will mount, although it does power up. My question is - with that drive gone, is the TM data on the other external drive still viable if I need to do a restore of (1) a single file, or (2) the entire internal HD/SSD? Or, do I need to erase that remaining drive and let TM start over? I realize doing so means there is no going back previous to the erasure, but I'd like to be certain that what is on the remaining drive will save my bacon if I need some sort of restore... Tnx, Jim

After Time Machine erase, Preferences shows entire HD free but mostly used, so which is it? I got a new Mac, so the old Mac provided a good backup. To clean out the old external HD Time Machine, I erased it to start with a new Time Machine backup. After erasing, I get the message below showing the disk capacity bar showing all black (i.e., not blue as being used), but indicating 663.7 MB as used. Then to the right of the bar, 999.16 MB is indicated as free. So which is it: Do I have all or 1/3 free for use? Did the erase operation work or fail? What is 221.4 indicated as purgeable? If to get a clean Time Machine HD I need to purge the 221.4, how is this done?

Can I clean up Mac by doing a Time Machine Recovery My 2017 iMac is starting to boot and log in a little slower than it used to. I am running the latest release of Big Sur. I've run Etre Check and that did show me some things and I've addressed them as well as booting into Safe Mode, resetting NVRAM and SMC. While some of this did help, it still seems a little slow. I was wondering if I wiped my iMac and then installed BS fresh, could I use TM to rebuild my environment withOUT pulling in all of the detritus for old apps that are no longer installed.

No and mucking around with your Time Machine backup, is a bad idea.
