Disappearing Contacts

A bunch of my contact names got removed and I only have phone #'s. Tried restoring and they are not coming back.

Any idea what is going on and how do I recover my contacts?

iPhone XS, iOS 13

Did you try the following -- If you accidentally deleted your calendars, bookmarks, or contacts from iCloud - Apple Support.

Tried everything in that document and it did not work. The phone#'s are available but the people's names went away. It is very strange as I can pull them up in messages by name and then recreate the contact and and if they call me it comes up with maybe:so & so. So the info is there somewhere but not in my contacts. AND it did not do it to all contacts, for example it removed my husband but kept my son and daughter. Very frustrating but I guess one way to clean up my contact list.
