Does text messages go to the I cloud? If yes how do I get to them

It doesn't save by itself, you would need to be doing this How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support and if you deleted a thread you do this Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
