iPhone watch updating and unpairing error

It would not update to 6.2.8 version. Says it doesn’t have enough storage. It has only 1G left. Can’t complete. Need 2.2 to complete

My apple watch series 3 is doing the same thing - it says up to date version 5.3.8 but then the app is stuck and there and you cant go back to settings or anything and if you hit cancel it wants to unsync/unpair - I have reset my phone and my watch.

Any suggestions?

Force reset the watch and try again.
