iPad wifi

My wifi is working fine on everyone else’s devices, but for some reason my wifi on my iPad will not work. It keeps showing an exclamation point (!) over the wifi when connecting, and after connecting it shows 3 bars. But when I try to use the wifi to stream a show or play a game, it says “not connected to wifi.” I have restarted it and forgot/ re signed into the wifi multiple times and it still won’t work. Please help if you’ve had this issue before!

It is possible that your WiFi router is unexpectedly blocking access to some internet/server resources - which might be resolved by a restart of your router.

To restart you home router, disconnect power - then wait at least 30 seconds before restarting. When you router has rebooted (which may take several minutes), force-restart your iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On an iPad with Face ID: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

It is also possible that your currently selected DNS servers(s) are not resolving, or a blocking, some resource addresses. Changing your DNS Server IP Addresses might resolve this problem.

For recommended DNS servers (configured at your home router and/or your iPad), you might choose one of the following highly regarded Recursive DNS Providers (IPv4 and IPv6 addresses included below). Where your local network is dual-stack, you should enter both the IPv4 and IPv6 redundant server addresses.

Hi Nida161,

What iPad is it and what version of iOS or iPadOS is it running? Based on what you've shared so far, I think the iPad is connected to the network at your home (or wherever) but the router is not giving it access to the actual internet, which is why it may look connected (which It technically is) but will still show no wifi (since you can't really do anything on a network without an active connection).

Is it possible that someone restricted the iPad in the router settings?

Does the iPad connect to the internet at other places such as a friends house?

Another thing you can try is turning on your phone's personal hotspot and try to connect your iPad to that to try and narrow down the issue.

I can try to explain the solutions above if needed, sorry if it was too long.

I hope this helps.
