unable to view images inserted to MS Word

I have tried to insert images to a ms word doc that I am currently working on. However, I can only view the border of the image and the content does not show up. I understand for windows laptop, there is an option in MS word < Option< Advanced< Show picture placeholder that will fix this issue once the checkbox is unticked for picture placeholder. Is there something similar for MAC? I have searched all of Google and couldn’t find a solution. Appreciate any help I can get on this. Thanks in advance.
