Adding an internet link to the desktop on MacBook Pro

When adding a link to the desktop, why is there no picture, like if you tried to do that with a simple google shortcut, for me, it comes up with 'WEBLOC' written under a symbol of the safari icon with both being on a white page. Does that mean if you want it to have a picture of the website you're visiting, you have to manually customise it to make it what you want, every time?

You may want to consider saving whatever site it is as a bookmark in your browser. Your desktop will quickly become visually confusing so you won't be able to find anything easily. I have my bookmarks categorized into folders and also use the tab bar in the browser with a bunch of them which are easily accessible with one click in a new tab.
