Update OS for iMac 20-inch, early 2008

Hi All,

I own an iMac (20-inch, early 2008), running OS X El Capitan (version 10.11.6).

Processor is Core 2 Duo - 6GB SDRAM

Can I upgrade to High Sierra or even Catalina? If not possible thru Apple, are there third party applications that would allow me to?

I know I could upgrade to a new model but I love this iMac.

Thanks in advance.

Christine

Hi tchristinestt,

We understand you'd like to update macOS on your iMac (Early 2008).

At this time, El Capitan is the most recent update available on this model of Mac. There is no way to update the Mac natively, nor through a third party app as software updates are contingent on hardware specifications.

The next version of macOS is macOS Sierra, and as you can see here: macOS Sierra - Technical Specifications, the 'Mac Hardware Requirements' states, 'iMac (Late 2009 or newer)'.

Hope this helps!
