Microsoft will always want you to pay for their latest products. Fortunately there are many alternatives to them. Most of them are better and some of them are free.
I have same question as well. I have Office 365 Personal bought via App Store in Dec 2019. Latest Apple updates do not apply to Word or Excel included in this package. July 2020
