Recently my phone asked for a password and i used my 4 digit passcode but it didn’t work. Turns out the phone required my apple id password to unlocking the phone. Now I am having trouble changing it back to a 4 digit password (the phone wont allow it). What do I do?

The instructions are essentially the same for an iPad and iPod touches. “If you enter the wrong passcode too many times, you’ll see a message that your device is disabled. If you can’t remember your passcode, you'll need to erase your iPhone, which deletes your data and settings, including the passcode.”
If you backed up your iPhone, you can restore your data and settings after restoring your iPhone. If you never backed up your iPhone before you forgot your passcode, you won't be able to save the data on your iPhone. Follow the steps below to remove your passcode.”

My phone is unlocked, I did remember the pssword. But now I can’t get into my phone with my old 4 digit code and every time it asks me to put in my apple id password with letters and numbers and special character’s
