Iphone 11 Pro only stores maybe 3 days of texts when I text a lot to the same person

On my new iPhone 11 pro, I can scroll back through my messages for just a few days of texts....others appear to not be there. I found where this happened to many people in 2010. Anybody else having this issue and fixed it? Weird too this is on my new phone, my 2 year old MacBook Air.
