Is VirtualBox safe to install on Mac OS El Capitan10.11.6

I purchased an automobile repair manual that is requiring me to install Oracle VirtualBox to run the software for the manual. I have an old; but good, MacBook Pro, OS El Capitan, I am cautious about installing free software. I am concerned about a virus. I would appreciate knowledgeable comments. Thank you.

MacBook Pro, OS X 10.11

The current VirtualBox only supports macOS 10.13.*, 10.14.*, and 10.15.* hosts. You will want to download version 5.2.44 which will support El Capitan, and also its extension pack. Consider that a Mac with at least 8GB and a faster (e.g. SSD) storage will be necessary to run VirtualBox and any guest operating system.

You can rest easy with VirtualBox. I have been using it for over a decade and never encountered any malware from an installation. There are no viruses on Mac, and if you are installing Windows, you will need a license and the downloaded .iso to install it as a guest.
