Change Apple ID after bullying

My daughter is being harassed by a kid with lots of time and Apple devices and online accounts. She has blocked him, but he keeps creating new IDs and group Facetiming her. When he does, and others in the group reply, her phone goes off incessantly.

Is the only solution to change her Apple ID and never tell any of her friends about it, since he's known to find other people to harass when they re-friend their friends with new IDs. It's a vicious cycle and now she has been affected.

Looking for any advice.

Does she use FaceTime with anyone else? If not, she could sign out of FaceTime but still use her Apple ID for other services. For iMessages, she could try going to Settings > Messages > Filter Unknown Senders. This would not prevent receiving the messages, but they would be grouped in a separate tab in the Messages app which she could choose to ignore, and it would not send notifications.

If these are not viable solutions, deactivating or deleting the Apple ID is an option. See https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250002761.

Yes, but there is specific FaceTime support from Apple - Apple can intervene and make changes to who can use it. If there are people using it for bullying, Apple can block them. I was suggesting the OP call Apple and ask specifically for support about FaceTime and abuse of that service.

It’s not like it’s a public service. It is a proprietary service, and just like MS and Skype, Google with Google Hangouts, FaceBook, TicTok and others offering proprietary services, Apple can and has intervened when users abuse their service. But the first step would be to call Apple directly and speak to them about it.

Have You Daughter Perform the Following:

Closing and Opening of eMail Accounts:

Perhaps have her close her eMail account. But, before doing so, have her export all of her eMails from the current eMail account, and then import them to the new one. That is something to ask the eMail providers of.

Hi JeffReynolds,

This is clearly a frustrating experience for both you and your daughter. I’ve got kiddos as well, and understand wanting to explore all options to help. It looks like our Community members are also offering suggestions on this thread, but it might also be worth contacting our Apple Support Team https://support.apple.com/contact to talk through other potential ideas they may have.

Thank you,

Blaine
