Choppy and laggy scrolling on MacBook Pro 2018

I've recently received MacBook Pro 2018, never had an experience with one of those (only mac mini), but pretty familiar how smooth scrolling on mac devices is. So when i started to surf the web using google chrome, scrolling suddenly turns out to be really laggy and choppy (like 30fps or close) on most of the pages (i mean if you google "NVRAM" for example, that google page for me is choppy and laggy, especially middle section, where are the videos from youtube). Same with VSCode editor.

The only thing that helps to solve the problem almost completely - disable automatic graphics switching and disable hardware acceleration or always run VSCode with --disable-gpu flag. With the specs my MacBook has - i don't think this is the right solution.

Specs (it also has Radeon Pro 560X 4GB videos card):

What i have tried:

  • Clean reinstall of MacOS
  • Reset SMC
  • Reset NVRAM
  • Disable automatic brightness correction
  • Increase period of time to switch off keyboard backlit
  • Boot to safe mode

Nothing of the above helped.

MacBook Pro 15”, macOS 10.15

I know this issue well.

This is all in regards to the chrome rendering engine which is why you experience this within the Chrome browser and within the Visual Studio editor. VSCode is based on the same engine as the browser.

You'll also notice without the GPU flag that your cursor disappears when doing a search in VSCode.

Point is: nothing is wrong with your Mac or the OS, this problem is within the realm of Google to acknowledge and resolve.
