Looking for adapter for macbook air, A1466 model

I am in the process of buying a replacement adapter (new doggo chewed up old one) for my daughter's macbook air, model #A1466.

Now I keep reading that these adapters fit macbook airs made after mid 2012. I don't know when this unit was made.

In the product descriptions for these adapters that I'm looking at, they do have the model number "A1466", but then they say they will only work for laptops made after mid 2012. Does this mean that all A1466 laptops will work with that adapter? Or that they are compatible with A1466 models if those models were made after mid 2012?

Make sure you purchase a genuine Apple adapter. Even though it can be pricy, genuine adapters contain components and chipsets that regulate the voltage and enable communication with your MacBook's SMC. Knock-off chargers lack these necessary elements and instead deliver the most basic AC to DC conversion. Below is a link for a genuine adapter.

Ajaysomi123 (or anyone else for that matter), could you please explain what the problem with using a knock off charger? Would the hardware on the laptop be damaged at all? At this point, our goal is to get 2 more years on this unit, and then when she goes to college we'll get her a new macbook air. So if we could just get 2 more years out of it that would be nice.

I just looked it up, and I'm hearing nothing but bad about those aftermarket chargers.

Interesting. I'm from the windows world and I've had great success with aftermarket adapters for my laptops, and batteries as well.

Anyways, fortunately I just bought it on amazon so I cancelled it just now w/o a hassle.

OK thanks. I'll see if a local mac shop has one that's cheaper on Monday. If not, I'll buy a genuine apple unit.

Thanks to all who answered here.
