is there a way to make a FaceTime call without my image in the corner of the screen?

I find the video of my face distracting and would like to focus on the image of the person on the other end of the call. Is there a way to turn off the small window of my image while making a FaceTime call?
If the other person does not care what they are looking at, do as I suggested and just flip the camera to the back camera. As noted, the image you see of yourself is what the person on the other end of the call is seeing. It is designed to keep you in the frame just as you are seeing them on your phone.
Flip the camera to the back camera so all the other person sees is the room you are in. Why do a FaceTime call if you don’t want the other person to see you.
That "selfie" is not a vanity tool. It acts like a viewfinder to help you line up your camera so the other person can see you in their phone. A regular phone call solves the problem.
