S.M.A.R.T. ISSUE

OK I’m trying to install Catalina over my Mojave on a mini mac ,it says that I have a S.M.A.R.T. error on my HD, when I go into (disk utilities) it shows an install ESD that is corrupted. I de-mounted the install and then I ejected the file and it seems to be good to go on the operating system, Until I try To load Catalina. Even though the error is gone in disk utility- as soon as try to download O.S. it comes right back up. I have went and found some install folders and deleted them and some .dmg as well this has not helped. The info on the disk utility is APPLE UDIF READ ONLY COMPRESSED (zlib) MEDIA & InstallESD.DMG.

PLEASE HELP

That's not what has the problem. It is the drive you are attempting to install to. InstallESD is the installer OS. It is not your drive but merely a disk image mounted in order to install the OS.

You need to run First Aid on your startup drive and determine if there is a problem. However, if it is reporting SMART errors, it is not long for this world.

Thank you . I’m backing up the Mac now and I will run the FIRST AID in RECOVERY and see what I end up with . I will let you know.
