QuickTime saving/export error after adding a clip

Hi, I get the below error (QuickTime 10.5, MacBook Pro, OS X 10.15.5) when I combine 2 clips (each ~2 mins, so they are not big files) and try to export the resultant file (Save option is greyed out):

The operation could not be completed: An unknown error occurred - 12769

I have seen several references to this issue (saving after trim/adding clips) but the solution(s) are not clear. Appreciate any help on this, thanks.

Hello Espi123,

It sounds like you are having an issue when trying add a clip in QuickTime but are receiving an error code. You should try combining these clips in iMovie and try saving the movie there. iMovie is an app that is designed for video editing and will likely be a better experience for you.

Create a new iMovie project

If for some reason you cannot use iMovie, there are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

  • Restart the Mac.

Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac

  • Test in safe mode.

  • Test in another user.

  • Check for updates.

Hello Moon,

Thank you for looking into this.

Reg. QuickTime issue - this can be replicated on my other Macs as well (all running latest OS - 10.16.6).

Therefore this issue will not go away by any of the suggested methods.

Similar issues are reported by other users (a google search will throw up details)

I wish iMovie were an option but iMovie has its own issue!

The combined clip has audio missing (especially at the place where the 2 clips are joined or at the very end of the clip).

Pls note - the individual clips by themselves play fine on QuickTime (or any other player).

This issue is also mention by other users with various hacks recommended (I tried and it doesn't work).

I wish QuickTime issues are resolved - until then I have to keep using Microsoft Photos for this.
