Dialabrain : I would even make a stronger statement than your last "You cannot run 32bit apps in Catalina" When I upgraded from Mojave I had replaced using all my 32bit apps and sequestered them into a separate folder.... I did not delete them, nor in hindsight, I did not remove their launch agents, daemons, frameworks, etc... I was left with an Imac27 that experienced hard crashes, requiring hardware resets... (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251610118)... I have eliminated the hard crashes in Catalina by meticulously removing the 32bit apps and their remaining crud... While I can not say directly that they were the cause of the hard crashes.... the correlation in my case is very strong... Therefore, I would say.... before upgrading to Catalina you should REMOVE any 32bit apps if you can and the detritus that they have spread throughout the system....
