I am moving and need to change my apple id from comcast to my icloud email if that is allowed. I do not want to loose anything in the process. Can someone help explain this to a not so tech savy grandmother?

You will lose nothing if you simply change your Apple ID.

Yes, although technically you won't delete the Comcast account. It will just disappear from your perspective. You are good to go with the change you want to make.
