Updating Quicktime Player

Hello:

I have considerable amount of audio data saved on QuickTime format player version 10.4

How important is it to have the latest version of QuickTime in order not to have any problems playing older format files?

My concern is that one day older format audio will no longer be accessible.

These files are of sentimental value and I do not want to lose them.

Thanks for your help! :)

What system are you currently running? With Catalina 10.15.6 QTP is Version 10.5. There are a number of older formats that are not compatible with Catalina. This Apple document describes those that are compatible and non-compatible: About incompatible media in iMovie for macOS - Apple Support.

If you have any of the incompatible formats you'd want to convert them before upgrading to Catalina.
