ipad could not be activated

I found my first ever iPad. The error message I am receiving says Your iPad could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reaached. Try connecting your iPad to iTunes to activate it...

Try connecting your iPad to WiFi if you can. If that doesn't work, try connecting your device to your computer, and try activating your device in iTunes.
