Error 4000 is a USB connectivity error. It can have several causes:

  • You are not running Windows 7 or later
  • You don’t have the correct version of iTunes, which you get from https://apple.com/itunes - the version in the Microsoft Store does not have iOS drivers
  • Your USB port cannot supply at least 1 amp to the phone
  • You are plugged in to a USB hub rather than a port directly on the computer (a hub with it’s own power source should be OK, however, as long as it can supply at least 1 amp)
  • Your firewall or antivirus is blocking the connection to the phone - try rebooting your computer, then temporarily disabling it.
