Open Settings ➔ General ➔ Reset ➔ Erase all Contents & Settings. The iPhone will then go through the steps necessary to erase all the data that is present on the iPhone and set itself up with a new iPhone's properties. You can then begin the setup process with your information.
Be sure to have your son around and in contact with you in the event that you may need his credentials to finish the setup.
