iPhone XR picks up 5g?

I was in Boston, MA the other day and my the Wifi indecator said I was connected to 5ge not LTE, I have an Xr. Is this supposed to happen?

AT&T has changed their LTE designation to 5Ge.

It's pure marketing and not actually 5G.
