USB-C to USB Adapter doesn't work with USB Superdrive

I bought a USB-C to USB Adapter to connect my USB Superdrive to my new Macbook Pro. Can't get the Superdrive USB plug into the adapter. Why? What do I need to use the Superdrive (2.03) with the Macbook Pro?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 10.15
