I am new to FCPX and am trying to edit, however it keeps stalling and freezing. I am trying to create Optimized and Proxy media, however when I click Generate Proxy, the Background Task bar does not move past 0%. Ever.
2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Up to date with Catalina 10.15.6
Files are all on the local computer (no external hard drive).

What computer is this exactly, from About This Mac? What's the media you're working with? How much free space is on the system drive?
First reset the preferences. Hold Opt-Cmd as you launch the application.
More testing... It will render .mov files but not .mp4 I recorded from OBS.
Do you mean it won't make proxies for the OBS media? Can you give the complete specs of the media?

Thanks for your quick response. After a few hours, I figured it out. OBS has different options for the encoder. I had initially set it to "Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder" which was the source of the issue-- though I don't understand why. Another option is "Apple VT H264 Software Encoder". I switched the encoder to "x264" and so far it seems to be working. Could you explain this situation for my own edification and for future users? Thank you so much again for your quick response. Sorry. I don't know anything about OBS. If you have an application like MediaInfo or Invisor you can see the exact media specifications and see what the difference is.
