I have a newish MacBookAir with Catalina and I need access to all of my old pictures from iPhoto in Majave. How do I find my Albums and recreate them in Photos? 9I have thousands of pictures.)

You need to find your iPhoto Library. Did you keep the iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder (the default location) or did you move it to an external volume to save storage on your Mac?

Once you have found your iPhoto Library, drag it onto the Photos icon in the Dock. Photos will create a new Photos Library from your iPhoto Library. The events and albums from iPhoto will appear as albums in Photos, in a folder called "iPhoto Events".

Alternately you can launch Photos while holding down the options key ⌥. Release the key when the Library Chooser dialog appears and select your iPhoto Library.
