Clear apple watch mail app usage

I'm trying to update my apple watch but can't seem to delete or clear 1gb of space being used by mail app.

Currently only one mail box is being synced with only one email showing in the list.

Here are some screenshots.

Yes this seems to work, but note that you will need to unpair your Apple Watch one more time - i.e. after the watchOS update is complete. During that second repairing you can then pick up your earlier backup.

I have a feeling that quite many Series 3 owners will hit this issue with watchOS 6 update. I tried to delete all apps and everything, but had no chance to clear enough space!

Hi grafobox,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you are trying to free up some storage space on your Apple Watch, that is being used by Mail. Let's help.

To confirm, are you unable to perform the watchOS update due to low storage on your watch? Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support. If so, it does appear that Mail is taking up the most space on your watch. The Mail app itself will take up a certain amount of MB in order to be present on your watch, however, we can see you have 1 email message shown in the email account, that also includes an attachment. Do you need this email to stay on your watch? Or, can you delete it? Manage mail on Apple Watch - Apple Support. To delete it, you would swipe left on the message.

We look forward to hearing back from you, if you need continued support.

grafobox,

Thank you for confirming, and taking that step already.

At this point, we would suggest running through a reset of your Apple Watch to erase it. This should clear up the storage so you can get your watchOS updated. Once updated, you can always restore your watch from a backup, if you desire.

To unpair and erase your Apple Watch, follow the guidance in this article: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support. Before the erase takes place, your companion iPhone will automatically create a new backup of your watch. Once the erase completes, you will see the 'Start Pairing' message. You should walk through the steps here to set up your watch again: Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support. When you get to step 4, please make sure you are choosing to set up your watch as new. Once the set up completes, please update your watchOS. Then, you can restore your watch from that recent backup, if desired.

Let us know if this helps you get your watch updated, or if you still experience the issue with storage.

grafobox,

Thank you for these additional details.

At this point, we suggest temporarily removing the mailbox from your Apple Watch to check if that has a positive impact on freeing up storage space on your watch. Then, if this allows you more space to complete the watchOS update, please perform the update next.

To temporarily disable the mailbox from your watch, open the Watch app on your companion iPhone > Mail > Include Mail > tap the email account from this list, which should remove the check mark next to its name. This will remove the entire mailbox from your watch, but it will not delete any mail or remove it from your companion iPhone.

Once updated, try following the same path to re-enable to mailbox on your Apple Watch.

Let us know how this goes.
