Only one HomePod works sometimes.

When I want to play Ocean Sounds from ambient sounds. It only comes out of one HomePod and not the one I asked to play it. One says here’s Ambient sounds and then on the other one in the pair plays. This is about 60 minutes of screwing around with it every night before bed. Most of the functions the HomePod has or not controllable by scenes or automation. NPR news brief and ambient sounds to name 2. I have found the sound quality much much better than the Amazon Echo, but other than that it really doesn’t work most of the time. With scenes and automation on the Echo, anything that you can tell Alexa to do can be set up as automation. The only thing that a HomePod can do through automation Or a Scene is play a track. Any help getting it to function correctly would be appreciated. I bought four HomePods. Two pairs I have the same problems with both pairs.

HomePod, 13

I just tested and it only plays from one of mine in the stereo group and not the one I asked. Same issue. I rarely use this feature. I have my own ambient playlist I created using Apple Music, set up in an automation which works.

It is inconsistent, sometimes it works. I also have trouble stopping the alarm sound from the other HomePod as well. Siri's telling me I have no alarms while the alarm is going off. The only thing I like about the Ambient Sounds is they are un-broken. If I play this particular 1 hour track and repeat it it has no breaks when I stream from my iPhone to a Bluetooth speaker, however if I try and play this on the HomePod it has breaks. So, what I did with that track, (Sleep on a Train, high speed), is I used Quicktime and made it a 10 hour track and put it in iCloud files and stream it to the HomePod Pair. (Because of the size I cannot upload it with iTunes i.e. new "Music" app.) Most of the time I use an Ocean Waves Track through my library. When I repeat the the breaks are not noticed.

I don’t like the breaks. I wish that could be adjusted like on a Mac. I forget what that feature is called. I found some longer ambient tracks on Apple Music. I’ve lost which playlist I added it to. So I don’t know what it was.

It just doesn’t seem right it should only play from one though. Mine wasn’t doing this before when I first tried the ambient sounds, something changed. Right now I notice my playlist has stopped. It does this all the time but seems more reliable by asking it to play, as opposed to Airplay or automations (which this is) I have one set to come on at sunset.
