does anyone know how to fix this error
Update unavailable for this apple ID, it was purchased by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

It appears that this Mac still logged in with the previous owner's Apple ID or that ID was used to purchase the app(s) you are trying to update. You will have to log in with your own Apple ID and purchase any of these apps for your use.
I figured it out, I just kept trying different passwords, I finally got it to update, thanks for your help though
