Notes Self Deleted on Imac

I exited my Notes app and shut my computer down. When I restarted my computer the next morning and opened Notes, all notes had been deleted. All notes were stored to "On My Mac" and NOT in ICloud or to an online account, nor do I have any hotkey delete buttons, etc. Does anyone know why that might have happened and how to restore or recover them? I can still see all the media pictures and previews in my ~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.Notes/ folder, but Notes is not reading them. There is also no folders in notes or a recently deleted option in Notes.

The Imac is running High Sierra 10.13.6 with Notes 4.5 (876.1)

No, I'm not syncing through ICloud. Sadly, no to the Time Machine backup. I had moved my computer to another residence and was in the process of hooking back up my external drives when this happened. But had several weeks of important notes that I can see media for in the folder that the Time Machine backups would miss.

If not that, I will certainly have to try something else. Even restoring older files to it causes it to self delete notes every time I close the Note app. Replacing files kept getting overwritten with blank ones. I even tried it as a "new" install and it kept doing it. Extremely frustrating as all media data is there, but since Notes won't open the files I can't access it. Trying to get any of the files to HTML or any other format only gives me a very small part of note recovery, but only of very old notes. Apple apparently also encrypts some of the data files (I certainly never locked any Notes) so they can't can't be opened outside of Notes without whatever passkey they use for that. I needed some of the info that was in the newer notes and very ****** off that shutting down Notes and then my computer started whatever this is with no alternate way to get at what data is there. So yeah, done trusting Apple apps with my data. :(
