Bluetooth automatically switching connection? No notification at all?

My iphone switches bluetooth connection suddenly or automatically. I was using my airpods and was on an important phone call and then I let my father borrow my car which I have paired my phone to before and during that call unbeknownst to me it connected to the car without notifying me or anything. I lost the call and was very infuriated. Does apple have a feature in which it will not allow automatic switching of bluetooth connections?

iPhone X, iOS 13

Hello ConfusedBluetooth!

It looks like you are having some trouble with your device automatically connecting to nearby BlueTooth connections that have been added previously. Currently there is not a way to disable that feature fully other than forgetting the devices that you would like to not have connect: Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We do love to hear feedback on what we can improve and this is a great suggestion. If you have time we would really appreciate it if you submit that to us here: Product Feedback

We hope this helps clear up your options in this case. Have a great rest of your day.
