Take photo with Image Capture

Question

According to this Apple Support Page you are able to take pictures with Image Capture.

- I have tried this with my iPhone (7, latest iOS) and iPad (Pro, latest iOS), doesn't work. (File > Take Picture is grey)

- I have tried it with my old Nikon D90 and also an older Canon 850, doesn't work.

Two questions:

1. Shouldn't an iOS device work?

2. Which DSLR cameras' do work?

PS. I do see all pictures on the units and can import them. But I want to control the camera, to take pictures from the Mac. DS

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Tethering is the process that lets you access one device through another.

And, iOS devices have a camera, but, by definition, are not cameras.

According to the article you linked to, it works with compatible cameras (not iOS devices) that support tethering.

you need to check your cameras. we are all other users and do not have access to the specs of all DSLR cameras.

I haven’t understood that ”tethering” is the thing I should look for. So many thanks for the clarification!

I think it’s somewhat strange that iOS cameras don’t work, but that’s another story...
