I clicked on a link from a message in the Messenger App that portrayed to be from a friend. THe link opened Facebook. Is it possible that my iPhone has now some type of virus or malware that could be stealing my information?

In thst case change your passwords.
iphone cannot get hacked or infected unless you jailbroke it.
