Newly gifted iPad- am I still eligible for the student offer (free AirPods)

Some of you may have a similar query to me but it seems LiveChat couldn’t be of much aid to me so maybe someone that sees this will!

I was recently gifted a new IPad (7th generation) which happened to be the day that apple announced that any student purchasing a new eligible IPad or Mac for college would receive a set of free AirPods. I hope to start college within the upcoming months so the products would be ideal for my situation. I’m just wondering if I would still be in anyway eligible?

This iPad was a present so I don’t have access to the receipt but I am aware it was purchased the day before it was given to me. What further makes me curious to my eligibility for the situation is does the iPad /Mac have to be purchased directly from an apple outlet or from the apple website?

If anyone at all has any sort of information that could aid me please let me know! Have a great day.

Directly through Apple store and proof of purchase to be able to get the airpods but I don’t think they would because everybody that bought one in the month up to the deal would say i just bought it. They would need to be able to check there system and see when you brought it.

You would need the help of the purchaser to attempt to claim the offer, however, at this point, you are probably out of luck as the return window has passed.

Hello Cara3730! I’m in the same exact spot as you. However, I was able to obtain the receipt for this purpose. Having several questions myself but wanted to see if you had gotten any further with Apple regarding this. My concerns are...I/they didn’t purchase the AirPods in the same transactions and it was from an authorized dealer but not an official Apple Store or Apple Campus Store. So...the big question...have they answered anything straightforward for you? I’m good with a no but need to hear/read something that gives an exact answer either way. I guess you can reply on here. If you’d rather email with any help, that’s great with me. Thank you for your help!
