Find my iphone

Recently misplaced my iphone somewhere around the house & tried to use the "play sound" option via my macbook to locate it. Unfortunately, it kept saying "sound will play when phone is connected" (IE to wifi). Alas, no sound was ever played.

Eventually, I found my iphone & tried to play sound via macbook again to test it out. This time, I was sure that my iphone was connected to wifi. In fact, I was using google on it. Same thing happened though. It kept buffering & saying that sound will play when connected. Eventually no sound plays & you have to click again to give the order.

What could be the problem here?

It's important to be able to rely on your iPhone playing the sound when you're trying to locate it through Find My. Let's get to the bottom of this together.

Since it sounds like your MacBook was indicating that your iPhone was offline when this occurred, it seems to point at a possible network communication issue. Have you had an opportunity to join a different Wi-Fi network, or switch to cellular data in order to try playing the sound again? This would help to isolate the issue further.

If it still occurs when your iPhone is joined to another network, please be sure to restart your device before testing again. A standard restart may refresh your iPhone's software and ensure it's receiving communications from Find My without issue.
