iMac 27" 2019 8GB memory Catalina 10.15 SSD slow

Hi!

iMac 27" 2019 8GB memory Catalina 10.15.6 with 250MB of the 1TB SSD drive free, and...

when more than 5-10 standard office apps + browser are open the Mac slows down with the occasional beachball rotating.

Anything I can do to speed it up? or is it normal and I simply need to add more RAM?

Thanks!

iMac Line (2012 and Later)

I agree, you do not have near enough RAM. If I am correct, your computer can easily be upgraded. Also, Catalina is a RAM hungry OS. If you need to keep so many apps open at one time, then you will need to install more RAM to accommodate this. In the meantime, close any unneeded apps when working and regularly restart your computer. Emptying your browse history also clears up RAM. I would install as much RAM as you can afford.
