iMac (20-inch, Early 2009) Upgrade

Hello, I own a iMac (20-inch, Early 2009). I understand you can upgrade the OS to a certain point. Is there anything that can be done to upgrade the hardware to make it compatible. I am also running into a problem with updates to Microsoft 365 as well. The current version I have will be end of support soon. I should be able to continue to get updates with this mac to make sure its secure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You own a 12+ year old computer that was classed as obsolete many years ago. It will run up to Mac OS 10.11.x and not beyond that. I would STRONGLY recommend that you replace the computer. If you need something more current to run Office 365, find the minimum system requirement for Office 365 and buy a computer that exceeds those minimums.

If you cannot afford to buy a new Mac which is what I'd recommend then you can buy an Apple Refurbished Mac from Apple. The ONLY caveat being that if you select a 21.5" model to purchase one with a minimum of 16GB of RAM and the largest SSD you can afford. If you get a 27" iMac you can get one with 8GB and upgrade the RAM yourself (cannot be done on 21.5" models) and the largest SSD you can afford.

If you cannot get one from Apple, then purchase from a reputable reseller such as Macsales.com, never buy used from E-Bay, your local computer repair joint etc...

Best of luck.
