Hi JayHu,

Thanks for the response. We see the issue is persisting. You are correct to turn off the device, then connect the device to your computer while holding down the home button. Make sure to continue holding until you see the recovery screen. When performing these steps, make sure you have iTunes or Finder open.

Remove the passcode on iPhone SE (1st generation), and iPhone 6s and earlier

  1. Make sure that your iPhone isn't connected to your computer.
  2. Press and hold the Side (or Top) button until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your iPhone. Then connect your iPhone to your computer while holding the Home button. Keep holding the Home button until you see the recovery mode screen.

If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled

Locate and view your connected device on your computer

Hope this helps.

My mom lost the password for the 1st gen SE, and we bought her a new SE. We are trying to erase the device and cannot get it into recovery mode. I have shut it down and then connected it while holding down the top button, connected it while holding down the home button, and connected it while holding down both buttons. A couple of times it told me it was locking up for 15 minutes, but most of the time it gives me an apple logo and then stays blank for the 3 minutes or so that I am holding the button down. I'm thinking instead of keeping it as a backup phone I need to dump it.
