family sharing and unlinking

Until now, i have my three teens email addresses under my apple id as alternate email addresses, and their phone numbers are also all listed under my id. they would like to have their own so they can use airpods without them jumping between devices, use their own storage on ipad for one and mac for another, etc. but i like the family sharing because it still allows us to find my iphone to check on them.

when i try to set up a new apple id for my daughter, it says her email is taken. when i try to find her id so i can unlink it from my account, it says cannot find it. i see her email address as one of the alternate email addresses in my account. so how do i set it up for her????

thanks

You need to remove their addresses and phone numbers from your account. You will then have to wait until you can use the addresses as separate Apple IDs.

Apple hasn’t published any guidance for using an address again. Normally, if your e-mail address was associated with an ID in any way, for example as a Notification email address or a Rescue e-mail address, then it can't be reused with another Apple ID for approximately one year. I have also seen posts that stated Apple told them there was a 30 day waiting period before the address could be used again.  You will need to get another e-mail address to use as your Apple ID or you can try waiting 30 days to see if that works.

You are welcome.

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. If possible, also set up Family Sharing  between the IDs to keep access to your apps/purchases.
